getting mail() to work from workstation setup

[FONT=Arial]I have setup a web programming workstation with Apache, PHP 5 installed, but no mail server installed.
I want to write and test a php with the mail() function written in it. I want to use my ISP's SMTP server but it requires user name and password to send out.
Is there a way to setup the php.ini at "[mail function] - ; For Win32 only." section to pass on the authorization info.[/FONT]

I recommend you looking in to PEAR::Mail

Because the default Mail() function doesn't support SMPT Auth...as much as i think

(I am still a newbie to PHP though to 🙂)

YOu should set up a local MTA and get PHP to connect to that.

Then configure that MTA to use your ISP's smart host, with the appopriate login.

Just enter your email stuff the same as it it with your Outlook or Outlook Express or Whatever e-mail client. Here's the section of php.ini

[mail function]
; For Win32 only.
SMTP = mail.bna.bellsouth.net//whatever your e-mail cliest uses for your email
smtp_port = 25

; For Win32 only.
sendmail_from = youremail address here

My ISP also requires all that but it works fine with my system, as a matter of fact I just used mail() to send an inline attachment to myself to test out a script.
