Giving in to OOP

I’ve been working with PHP for around 1 1/2 years now. I was taught and therefore leant to program in a slightly ‘old fashioned’ style.

I should have picked up OOP straight away, however I’ve managed to avoid it since the start, but I’m now thinking it’s about time I got up-to-speed on way modern programmers develop.

I’m after a book that is specifically aimed towards OOP practices rather than a PHP book with one or two chapter’s focusing on the concept. Or, even if indeed such a book has been written?

If anyone knows of a book that really focuses on PHP OOP then please could you post the suggestion!

A great book Im reading (2nd time) is PHP5, Objects, Patterns and Practice.

Excellent. I had a quick glance at this on Amazon.

I noticed it was released sometime in 2004, does this mean it will be out of date in certain areas? E.g. the way the code is laid out etc?

Is it based on PHP 5?

I too have that book. Haven't gotten a chance to read through all of it yet, but the parts I have read are great and really stress using the best methods, like OOP

i have the book and it is based on PHP5, but one downfall i noticed is hard to follow for people new to OOP so i picked up a book called The Object Oriented Thought Process does a great job help you think in OOP

'The Object Oriented Thought Process' book has had some pretty awful reviews so i think ill give that a miss!

I'll order 'PHP5, Objects, Patterns and Practice' and see how i get on with that!
