I like the idea, it shows complete lack of interest in things that people say to you when REALLY you want to be doing something else 😛

I don't use the telephone for long conversations though, so usually its the other way round, where I'm typing one handed in a (very very boring) internet conversation whilst simultaneously flipping through TV channels.

That'd work.

Above was the 5-6th time I've heard from this person in weeks. Typically, they get billed about $30 every 3 months or so, and the rest of the time it's just attempting to glean free advice....

Not that I have a paypal account to transfer the money to, considering I'm only 15 and lazy, but that's not the point.

HA! Hardly... just found out my daughter's kindergarten teacher makes twice what I do.. and the principal makes about one and half times THAT. So trust me - I ain't got the $$$. But I am considering a career in teaching kindergarten 😃

Funny how the topic digressed from talking on the telephone to teaching kindergarten and pay rates. I hate the telephone and the television. If the phone rings you better have a point and get it out quickly and if you are a telemarketer, then I tell them I do not have a phone, which of course they say then how are you talking to me and I say that I am robbing the house and just happened to answer the phone to keep from waking up the others, if any. They ususally hang up right after that.

We usually just say, "Sure, hang on a minute" and then set the phone down and walk away- we figure if they're stuck on our line waiting to talk to someone (that obviously will never come back) they aren't bugging someone else 🙂

I was once phoning I think it was the tax department, and got muzak played at me for a while (Okay, so I'm not sure it was Inland Revenue. Usually when you phone a government department you get utter silence while you're on hold. The length of the wait seems about right by my recollection though).

And I was waiting there for two minutes ... four minutes ... eight minutes ... fifteen minutes ... and I was waiting for a pretty long time there and before too many more minutes I was needing to do something else. So I turned on the stereo, found an easy-listening radio station, and played muzak back at them while I did something else. I was gone for ten seconds ... twenty seconds ... I was away for about a minute, but when I got back they'd already hung up.

haha! I do the same exact thing (often, "hold on, let me get a pen and paper...")! I also usually put them on speakerphone+mute so I can hear their reactions 🙂

I spent a long time working in telemarketing, and I loved it when people would do that. It was like a free break.
