[RESOLVED] Problem installing PHP and Apache

Hi..

After I have completed the installation and configuration for PHP and Apache, I try out a test program. I find out that when I want to open a ".php" from the localhost using Internet Explorer, it will display a dialog box asking me to choose a program to open this file. The file should have been displayed in the IE instead of prompting me which file to open with. Anyone got any idea what is wrong with the configuration. Pls help. Thanks a lot.

Could be any number of things. What OS are you on and how exactly did you install apache and php, from source?

Did you add the appropriate configuration to the LoadModule line?
Did you start the server?
What do you see when you type http://localhost in your browser?

After I have inserted - LoadModule php5_module "c:/PHP/php5apache2.dll" in the right location as stated in the manual, it gave me an error when I run apache.

The message is "Cannot load C:/PHP/php5apache2.dll into server: The specified module could not be found."

But when i go to the directory, this file is there. I don't what is wrong. Pls help. Thanks.

What version of Apache webserver are you running? I believe the .dll files that ship with PHP are only compatible with the Apache 2.0.x API? Not sure.

How about PHP? Which version exactly are you trying to install?

And once again, I'll reiterate a question brought up by thorpe - what O/S are you running this on?

I am using PHP 5.1.4 and Apache 2.2.2. It is running under Windows XP.

If you read the information on this manual page - [man]install.windows.apache2[/man] - you will find that currently PHP is mainly geared for Apache 2.0.x, though there are still DLL's available for the 2.2.x series if you dig in the snapshots.

Alternatively, the folks over at Apache Lounge have compiled a .dll that works with the new Apache 2.2.x series. The download for this .dll file can be found here. Do a search for XAMPP in google..........

It'll have you up and running in no time.

I am using XAMPP and the problem is solved. Thanks everyone for the help.
