load content to 2 divs at once

Can anyone help me write code to load content into two different divs with one clicked link. I would like to have a set of main menu options each of which loads new navigation content in one div and links from that new navigation into another div.

I know javascript can do that with two different frames and I assume it can do so with two divs but I thought that PHP would be able to do so also.

For PHP to do this it would have to know what "click" means. And, for that matter, "div" and "link". It doesn't. PHP doesn't know anything about HTML or other client-side stuff like that.
