British pound displayed as question mark

Hi,

I'm in the process of moving my site to a new hosting location and I've noticed that my £ signs are being displayed as ? marks. I've tested this with a static html file so it can't be a mysql or php issue and must be an apache setup issue.

However, after much searching I cannot seem to find an answer. Using the £ will resolve it but that's not an easy short term fix so I can migrate the site over.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Your server is sending a header to indicate UTF-8, whereas your HTML file is encoded in (possibly) iso-8859-something (1, 15 etc)

You should use UTF8 throughout really. I can't see any reason why a new project would not use UTF8 throughout.

So convert all your HTML files and your PHP, database etc, into UTF8 and use it correctly and throughout your entire application.
