Ok, I have been programming php for over 5 years but have somehow avoided all of everything to do with SSL .
Here's the scoop...
background:
I have a client who wants to change hosting. Their e-commerce site is up and running. I have signed up with a decent host and have set up their current site on the new host... all is well except of course the SSL.
issue(s):
I don't want to transfer over the domain name to the new host until everything is working perfectly.
I cannot get their current company to return my emails/calls regarding who their SSL cert. was purchased through and the exp. date. They are not going to take the loss of a client very well so cannot count on them for anything.
questions:
Can I set up a trial SSL cert. for the new host just for testing and transfer and after 30 days either get a new one or transfer current?
Can I get a certificate signing request with the IP only? Or somehow give the domain name but still test correctly before the dns change?
main goal:
What I would like is to avoid any down time during transfer.
sorry to be so ignorant.... just seems like my lack of knowledge is making a bigger ordeal than it should be. I'm sure that e-commerce sites have transferred hosting before!!
any help would be fantastic!
