How does this work

Hi i am Curious as to how thios works as i would like to do the same, what i need to know is how to get the file name into the document and how do i make the document with diffrent filenames if i you know what i mean like you could replace haktar.card with whatever.card and it will display there details, i asume its a disciused php file or something, but can anyone please point me in the right directoion.

Do you really think copy and pasting from this thread will help? I meen sure... your other thread may have been in the wrong location, but read your post... can you understand what your talking about?

sorry ill try again, it is kind of hard to explaind, if i access a site say www..com/thorpe.card or www..com/haktar.card depending on the name before .card it will retrive there details from a database, that part i can do but i need to know how thorpe.card and haktar.card executes the same file without actually creating a individual card for each person.

To do something like what your talking about you would need to use apache's mod_rewrite module to rewrite urls like /index.php?id=thorpe to /thorpe.card. To get index.php to display different user data based on an id passed through GET you would store the data in a database, then retrieve it via a simple query. eg;

ive been looking for mod_rewrite but coming up pretty empty do you know if i can do this in cpanel

cPanel does not, as far as I can tell, offer a handy tool that creates mod_rewrite rules.

You need to ask your web host if they permit you to edit .htaccess files, and if their Apache setup has mod_rewrite installed. If the answer to either of these questions is no, then you're out of luck.

If you are permitted to create .htaccess files for your webspace, and mod_rewrite is on, then you need to read the manual page that thorpe pointed you to. mod_rewrite is very powerful, so it'll take you an hour or two or reading-up to get the basics of it.
