General Mysql Question

So. I have a site based on php includes.

on almost every include I need to access the mysql database... so..

would it be ok to open and close the connection on the template page, thus negating the need to write it out a hundered times..

or is this generally bad practise and I should only have a connection open when I am actually using it?

Excellent. Thats what I thought but I wasnt entirely sure if there might be something insecure about leaving it open like that.
