Installing both mysql and mysqli extn's on Mac 10.4

I can't do it. I've tried editing the makefile to take out duplicate references to -libmysql, making one of them shared, making both of them shared, temporarily renaming MySQL lib files, nothing works. There's always a conflict.

Has anyone been able to compile with both extensions on Mac OS X 10.4?

Alright, I got it to work by compiling MySQL from source. The binary doesn't include shared libraries.
