help with php mail and gmail

I have been trying to use the php mail function to use my gmail accout to generate mail...but i get an error saying that i must be able to authenticate before i can use the gmail smtp server.... so i tried using the phpmailer class where i mentioned my gmail accoutn username and password. but still i am not able to use the gmail account i have to send mails......so what is the method by which i can use my gmail accout to send mails in php....plz help.... 😕 😕

My guess is that you're trying to use gmail's SMTP server to relay. Don't. Relay the mail via your normal MTA on your server, and set the "From" (and if possible, envelope sender) to your gmail account.

You can use gmail as mail relay if you enable the openssl extension and use swift mailer .
