Starting a new project - Can I bounce this off y'all?

(Let me know if this is in the wrong place, or inappropriate.)

I'm pretty new to PHP & MySQL and I'm trying to code a little program from scratch. (i broke up with my boyfriend who usually helps me with this stuff.)

A brief intro to what i'm doing:
I'm trying to create an attendance roster for my girls' cheerleading squad.

I'm trying to figure out how to organize this. Can I use this place to bounce my ideas off of you to see if I'm going in the right direction?

I was just about to give up...
This is the layout I have so far: http://cheermagic.net/attendancetest.php

I have three fields, date, name (with options being the names), attendance (with options being present, tardy, exused, unexcused). I want to put in one date and select names and whether they attended or not. But this is not working. It goes in the database, but only the last name.

I will need to create reports for monthly attendance when it is all said and done.

You're probably missing a $_POST var during your insert into the db. Check the name of the fields in the form and the name of the vars you're inserting. Or just put up the source so we can see and help you.
