Connect to Yahoo Stock's

Hey everybody, I am a new member here and just started earlier today on studying up on my PHP skills and realized I need a PHP script that alot of people charge for but is a small task so I'd do my own.

I am looking to get a stock market script created at the end of my mission (I want to create one.) Now, I'm sure the coding won't seriously be a problem if I can study up on it more, my issue will be the problem of connecting to Yahoo Stock's to obtain the current price and all of that. I'm talking about the P/E Ratio, etc. All that, and possibly the chart.

I see they have a SDK but its still intimidating and I don't even honestly know where to start to get myself going with it. Is there a certain Yahoo Stock SDK I need or what, anybody can help me please. I want to make my first script so I can have a feeling of accomplishment.

Your best bet for fetching the data (a job for PHP) is probably a PHP Really Simple Syndication (RSS) reader. As far as displaying a moving stock ticker, you are probably going to need javascript, dhtml, or flash or something. You won't find much help for that kind of stuff on this forum.

The basic idea is that yahoo (or whoever) will probably have a link that labeled RSS on their financial data site. When you click on that URL, you'll get some xml or some kind of markup code like html that contains the stock data. You can probably find a PHP client for RSS that can fetch that data and spit it out from a page on your server.
