php computer identification

I am curious if anyone knows of any other methods other than by the IP & MAC to identify a individual computer.

in particular does anyone have a piece of code that can gather the remote computer name & or drive identification?

just curious.

someone will correct me if im wrong but i think the only real way to gather that sort of info is via active x on windows. obviously that requires the user allow access for the active x component to be run or installed.

or maybe using java.

that's kinda what I'm afraid of, but I'm hoping someone out there may have stumbled across different things.

it's a hope more than anything.
