include permissions error

Hello PHP people,

I wasn't totally sure where to post this question, this being my first post here and all. But I thought I'm a bit of a newb, so this forum seemed like the right place. Please tell me if I am wrong.

I am having an issue with using a PHP include on a site. Here is the line of code:

<?php include 'http://'.$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'].'/includes/home_menu.inc'; ?>

Here is the error outputted on the page:

Warning: include(http://XXX/includes/home_menu.php) [function.include]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed! HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized in D:\internet\wwwroot\anmc\index.php on line 144

Warning: include() [function.include]: Failed opening 'http://XXX/includes/home_menu.php' for inclusion (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in D:\internet\wwwroot\anmc\index.php on line 144

So it would seem to be some kind of permissions problem, but after days of searching and granting permissions to the IIS related users and so on, I am still getting the same error.

I am running on IIS 6 (unfortunately), PHP 5.1.4, anything else that anyone needs to know that might help, just ask.

I have been suck on this for days, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Looks to me as though you forgot a pair of parentheses.

Give the following a try

<?php 
include ('http://'.$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'].'/includes/home_menu.inc'); 
?>

Thanks for your reply. Were but that the problem, I would be super happy... But it is not to be. I had always assumed that the parentheses were optional as the examples in the PHP manual tend not to bother with them (http://us2.php.net/include/). But I put in the parentheses just to be sure, and as expected got the same error still.

One other weird thing I have noticed is that when I open a new browser window (no other browser windows open before this one) and I try to go to the site, I am presented with a user and pass pop-up box (which it shouldn't be doing because IIS is set to allow annon. access) if I then put in my Windows login details, it lets me through to the site but with the same PHP error as above on the page. What would cause this kind of behavior?
