PHP tester?

Hey,

Does anyone know of a program or programs that is in one easy install that I can download and use to test my PHP programs. I can test them online at my webspace provider's server but it eats up my bandwidth having to FTP transter all the files up.

I want to know if there is somthing I can download that I don't have to have any connection to the internet to use and test my PHP programs.

XAMPP will set up Apache MySQL PHP and PERL, within 10 minutes of download you can run PHP on your own server as http://localhost/your.php and there is also WAMP which does the same but does not have PERL. All the latest versiona of PHP Apache and MySQL are with either of these easy to use install and run it all installers.

So, let me get this straight so i'm not flying blind so to speak. I should download that package / packages. After the install I should be able to run the program and test my PHP scripting without having to have an internet connection.

If you mean "test" your scripts by simply running them, then yes... Something like phptriad, nusphere or similar products will install php, mysql and apache on your home machine. You can test stuff right there on your own box. There are some differences between how php/apache does things on windows and *nix boxes, so be careful to research these things when writing your code.

Yea, I downloaded XAMPP, I have it installed and "configured". Although as to the rest I'm lost. Although I havn't invested much time into learning how to use this set of programs. It says that there is somthing wrong with the installation. Do you know if I'm getting this error because I need to have a connection to the internet and/or a connection to my home network?

If you have downloaded and installed XAMPP then you will have Apache MySQL and PHP plus Perl on your Apache server. Remember that PHP is server side and unlike HTML can be opened by clicking the file name PHP can not. You must open your browser and enter a URL to access PHP content.

Open your browser and type http://localhost/xampp/ into the address bar and you should see the XAMPP main page. Do that and let us know what happened.

If you are window 2000 or above , xp user then no problem just configure IIS from Administrative Tools in control panel and install PHP download form www.php.net and mysql from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/ install these and run php on your computer.

To see if php is in fact on your machine and how it is configured then write this

phpinfo();
?>

name that file test.php and when saving it if you use notepad under Save As select All Files and then save it as test.php in the c:\Program Files\xampp\htdocs folder. Then type http://localhost/test.php and it should run, if you have a problem then try reinstalling XAMPP and accept all the defaults. XAMPP if installed with all the defaults should work with no problems.

Remember that PHP is a server side language and unlike HMTL where you can double click the file and it will open in a browser PHP must be RUN on a WEBSERVER and webserver have URLs like http://host.com/afile.php and PHP running on Apache must be in the htdocs folder because that is where the server looks for HTML and PHP documents.
