[RESOLVED] PHP's date reports incorrect time! Needa hand

Hi there,

I'm not certain what the issue is, but if I shell into the server and issue the time commands that I know, everything checks out:

#date
Fri Jul 21 11:49:20 EST 2006

hwclock

Fri 21 Jul 2006 11:49:27 AM EST -0.779749 seconds

The symlink in /etc/localtime is also correct. Now the problem:

# php -r "echo date('Y/m/d H:i:s');"
2006/07/21 12:53:53

The clock is one hour fast in PHP! How do I correct this? Shouldn't it be getting time from the OS, or HWClock?

5.1.4, I've tried recompiling PHP to no avail.

Then check with date_default_timezone_get(). That's the one that will be used if no default tz is set in the environment. Try changing it with "date_default_timezone_set()" to see what happens.

It echoes: "America/New York" which should be correct time.. unfortunately the issue persists. I'Ve also tried adding the php.ini directive date.timezone = "Canada/Eastern" (which is nonetheless equivalent) and have restarted PHP and the issue remains.

This PHP is operating atop a 64-bit CentOS 4.3

I'd overlooked the TZ environment variable.

export TZ=Canada/Eastern

did the trick. Thanks for having bounced ideas off though!
