Error al leer xml con php

Hola,

Estoy probando un ejemplo para leer xml con php que es el que viene en esta pagina:

pero a mi no me sale lo que me tiene que salir, solo me sale:

the , employee
the , employee
the , employee

las variables que se supone que recogen el valor de lo que hay dentro de las etiquetas estan vacias.
Tengo instalado appserv con php 4.3.0 y activada la libreria domxml.dll tambien me he bajado una libreria que es libxml.dll y la he pegado en extensions de php y en winnt/system32 y winnt/system.

El caso es que no me funciona, alguien me puede ayudar a solucionarlo??? ya no se que mas probar y estoy
