Drop down database info

I have managed to get a search working when my users enter details and search. I now need them to be able to search in more than one box or preferably enter details in three different drop down boxes. It allows my users to search in the first box and results with the wanted products for that search. This needs to be narrowed down, hence i need more boxes to select. My code is below:

If i understand what your saying correctly all you need to do is add the form entry (select box or input box what have you), after submit trim the newvalue and verify its there, then do an if statement to edit your sql query.

so if you ad to the form.

<select name=z>
     <option selected value=purple_monkeys>Purple Monkeys
     <option value=big_purple_monkeys>BIG PURPLE MONKEYS
</select>

then ad this where you ar triming

$var3 = trim(@$_GET[z]);

Then near your query

if (!is_null($var3)) {
 $query= select product from product where surface like \"%$trimmed%\" and like othercolumn \"$var3\" order by surface";
} else {
 $query = "select product from product where surface like \"%$trimmed%\" order by surface";
}

Problem solved!!!! thats excellent, its all working as I wanted now with three seperate boxes being chosen with one answer given back! Thankyou so much for your help I'm evertr so grateful!
