Mail Problem

Hello, im new to all this php stuff and im really stuck on a issue i have,
When i get members to sign up to my website it needs to send a activation email out when you go through the steps and click finish i get this error message

Warning: mail() [function.mail]: SMTP server response: 551 Bad Recipient in

the email then doesnt go out

1st thing is that i have a dedicated windows 2003 server

2nd thing is that my mail relay is set on local domains only (because everytime i open it up to full open relay my server get spammed like you would not beleve well over 100,000 emails in less 24 hours which cllogs my server up.

3rd thing is i dont understand enough to be able to sort the problem out on my own ive tryed for about 2 weeks now and its really starting to tick me off

So if anybody can help me out here i would be extremly greatfull and forever in your debt. 😃

Sounds like you have several problems. Contact your systems administrator to see if they can correctly enable relaying from the local host only on the mail server.

Having an open relay will cause your server to be used to relay spam, also, you'll quickly get blacklisted and banned permanently from sending any email to many hosts (especially AOL).

Never have an open relay, even briefly. If you do so, your IP address is toast, and you'll need a new one if you hope to ever send any email ever again.

If you make an email request with a correctly formed, non-forged sender and envelope sender headers, it should be accepted.

Ensure that you're not forging messages, or using a user-supplied address in the "From" or envelope sender fields.

If you are using the IIS MTA, I'm afraid it doesn't make any useful logs (not even optionally).

Could you explaing this part in more detail to me as i really havnt got a clue what you are talking about lol

Thank you for your quick reply, I contacted my server and they told me there is nothing rong with the way my mail server is working 🙁

Would it be helpfull if i posted the php file were the problem is?so you might have a look at it?

I really do apprcaite your help as im really stuck on this and need to sort it really soon

i tryed postin the file but too many charicters so i have just posted the line with the error in it

		mail($user_email, $subject, $message, "From: $from", "-f $from");
