large text files

I want to store details of large text files (larger than 255 like in SQL). So i thought of storing .txt files, any ideas or directions you could point me in would be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you store everything in the database, that's what it is made for.

A 'text' field can hold really large amounts of text. And if that isn't enough you can make it a 'longtext'

A 'text' field can hold 65,535 Bytes of text (64 K😎
A 'mediumtext' field can hold 16,777,215 Bytes of text (16 M😎
A 'longtext' field can hold 4,294,967,295 Bytes of text (4 GB !)

You can use this as an example

CREATE TABLE test (
ID INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT ,
text TEXT NOT NULL ,
PRIMARY KEY ( ID )
) TYPE = MYISAM ;

You can also use MEDIUMTEXT and LONGTEXT.

TINYTEXT also exists but that one can only hold 255 chars, so that won't solve your problem.
