executing a php code within a code

note: the thing that im searching is a web page coded in php..

i'm making a search option in our website but the thing that makes it hard is that
when the result of the search is only 1 it must automatically execute the a page it locates..unlike when the result yields multiple result all you have to do is link the results..

I'm not really sure what you're asking here, but you can determine how many search results you have and act accordingly like so


if( mysql_num_rows($query) == 1 )
{
     // Show the single result here
}
else
{
     // Link to the [0 or] multiple results here.
}

thanks for the reply but the problem is that i want that if there's only one result in the search...it automatically executes the selected item.....but i dont know the how to make that particular code....

i'm not sure what the items are you are dealing with and what you mean by execute. Can you be more specific?

ah ok...the items that i am searching for are database pages that are coded in php...for example:

page1.php
page2.ph
and so on....
so my search code searches for a particular control number thaT is part of the page...

so basically i want that if the search result contains only 1 item it automatically executes it.
but if there's a bunch of them i just use linked....

If you want to redirect so that if there is one result it goes to that page I'd use this:

//obviously change yoursite.com to your domain and assuming $row[0] contains the name of the page found

I believe you want [man]eval/man....

Run your query, take the example you want, and [man]eval/man the string as PHP code....

eval() evaluates the string given in code_str as PHP code. Among other things, this can be useful for storing code in a database text field for later execution. code_str does not have to contain PHP Opening tags.

There are some factors to keep in mind when using eval(). Remember that the string passed must be valid PHP code, including things like terminating statements with a semicolon so the parser doesn't die on the line after the eval(), and properly escaping things in code_str. To mix HTML output and PHP code you can use a closing PHP tag to leave PHP mode.

Also remember that variables given values under eval() will retain these values in the main script afterwards.

A return statement will terminate the evaluation of the string immediately. As of PHP 4, eval() returns NULL unless return is called in the evaluated code, in which case the value passed to return is returned. In case of a parse error in the evaluated code, eval() returns FALSE. In case of a fatal error in the evaluated code, the whole script exits. In PHP 3, eval() does not return a value. [/code]

just use <META> tags to relocate..

Because if content is already sent to teh browser, the meta tag won't do anything.

I think the script would have to enclose the redirect in a function, and you'd have to call the function in the javascript, or use an onLoad even in the body tag.
