Development Environment Suggestion

Hi
all Im new to this forum and ofcourse to PHP development.

I have to develop an e commerce application which would be hosted in a LINUX server with MYSQL APACHE all the lamp technologies.

I have a Development Environment with Windows 2000 pro IIS and have PHP and MYSQL Installed

Is it suitable to develop the desired application with an environment I have or any thing else has to be done??

Also suggest an IDE to test/debug PHP web applications.

Is there anything similar or nearest to M/S Vis.Stud.NET2003 IDE for PHP files?
can I develop PHP web application thru M/S Vis.Stud.NET2003 IDE.

Suggest me .........

There's about a dozen or so suggestions there.

If you look further down the board index there are three forums dedicated to specific IDEs.

And whether or not you can use Visual Studio .NET? You could, in principle, but it would offer nothing that any decent text editor can't do because PHP is not a .NET language. (There is a PHP.NET modification, but it's for developing .NET applications just like any other .NET language.)

Well, it would be easier to install and use Apache as the web server, if that's what you're building for, because then you can experiment with configuring the web server in different ways, and you can use the [man]Apache[/man]-specific functions. But IIS would be good enough for most of PHP itself. Just follow the manual's sections on installing PHP for the different systems.

Keep in mind the different requirements on different operating systems of any extensions you're using. That's covered in the manual, too.
