i want to know how to dectect a specific character

for example..

$cool="php=cool";
$Z = 0;

i want to know how to detect that equal sign

if ($cool has an equal sign){
Z=1
}

check to see the amout of characters and make it shorter.
$cool should have a max of 8 characters....

However, note that the first 8 characters of "php is the best language" are "php is t", not "php is the", like you wrote.

And you might want to take a look at the chapter on PHP string functions.

what is the easist way to remove characters

$cool = "apple>orange<pe ar, pizza;=45"; (dont ask)

remove ><;,= (and maybe even a space now that we are on that shaky topic)

$cool = "appleorangepearpizza45";

Look, you shouldn't take anybody for a fool. This is not the place to get your homework done. I already suggested you to read the "String functions" chapter. Maybe a few ideas about PCRE would be useful as well.

And I tell you again, look into string functions, especially at substr_replace, strtok, strstr and strpos. Pick what suits you best and start coding on your own.

I don't want to sound harsh, but don't look at the number of my posts, I'm not a "junior" for a long time now, I just recently registered with this forum.

lol.. this is not HW (its summer). And i did read the string chapter.

Im just asking what is the best way to do it. Because I know my way would be slower and ill have a lot of code for no reason. Buts its cool. Thanks for the help, it really did help. Ill figure out the rest.
