[RESOLVED] round(filesize()) from bytes 2 mb

Hi all

Im not sure if im just brain dead today or what!!

I would like to use the round() function to be able to change the bytes to mb coming from filesize() function

I just need the formula used to convert from bytes to mb, but for the life of me cant work it out,

Something like:

$mb = $b/1048576;

Then use round on $mb.

Yep you are the man, its close to the actual size about about 50mb on some file sizes, but it will do for now,

Is there any way I can display a very close file size ?

What do you mean exactly with "Is there any way I can display a very close file size ?" ?. Using 1000000 instead of 1048576 follows the iec standard. Do you get better results with 1000000 ?

the actual file size,of one file is 717mb in windows explorer, Using "/1048576" the file size comes out as 701.

using "1000000" the file comes out as 735.

you see its not close enough!

Windows seems to be using 1000*1024 (1024000) so try this one (my last idea).

Thank you for your time, it is now reading correctly, on the windows test system, when I upload the script to my linux webhost would I need to change this vaule again ?

I don't think that you need to change the code. The filesize function returns the size in bytes on linux and windows. So your code should display the same on linux and windows. It's a matter of how you want to calculate the MB (binary: 1048576, iec: 1000000, Windows: 1024000).
