Carrying text in URL

Hi, I know this may be rather daft! It used to be so simple...

I'm trying to carry a bit of text in a URL to enable me to post a category title BEFORE it reads from the database ... so for example

I've tried

<? $title = $_GET['title'] ?>
and 
<? $title = $_POST['title'] ?>

with 

<? echo $title ?>

Something simple I imagine!

Sorry!! Just released I didn't actually pose a question -

My question is : How do I print the text on the page that I have carried from the URL ?

IE how do I print:

The title 'Pop Music' at the top of the cdreviews.php page?

  echo $_GET['title'];
}

<? $title = $_REQUEST['title'] ?>

ps: Dont use short <? tags. Use <?php ?>.
