I'm in doubt what to apply the htmlentities
function.
Is it better apply it when I store data into
the DB or when I retrieve data from within
it.
I lean toward the first one but ..................

Apply it after you've retrieved it, not when you're storing it. Otherwise you won't be able to sensibly use the data for anything except inside XML/HTML unless you unhtmlentities() it first.

i just had this issue too and using it when retrieving is the only way forward. for future proofing i created a function that i called everytime something was retrieved. This way in the future if better functions open up you don't need to change over everything, just modify your function
