www.lat3x.com/membername how do i get this to show membernames profile?

I currently running my own dating site www.lat3x.com.
At the moment to browse a members profile you will have to type www.lat3x.com/mem.php?nam=membername, it would be great if somebody could tell me how to implement some code (possibly in the 404.php file) which would throw up the members profile.

The main difficulty here appears to be getting some code to extract the URL the user entered, then extract just the text after the forward slash.

Faceparty.com has managed it, if somebody could help me I would be extremely thankful as it would mean my members could give their profile page out.

What does throw up the members profile mean? I dont understand the question.

I would like the code to look up whatever text is entered after the www.lat3x.com/ and make that a string, from there I can run a query on that string to check to see if there is a member with that name.

I've looked at the parse_url function, could use the [path] array to extract the 'membername' which I want to search for.

Really all I need to know now is if / how is it possible to get some php code to look up the URL that was last requested from the server.

Ah... so you want urls that look like http://yoursite/membername ? This is done with apache's mod_rewrite module, not php.

I'm using freepgs.com hosting, is mod_rewrite standard on php servers?
