Counting Frequencies

I'm sure this is a common script but I've been unable to locate it or be able to logically think of how to do it, this is what I'm trying to accomplish:

I have a database full of quotes and a field for the author and another for the source. I want to sort all the rows by the frequency of the fields. For instance if there are 30 rows with "The Hobbit" as the source, and 15 with "The Lord of the Rings" as the source I want the script to output:

The Hobbit (30)
The Lord of the Rings (15)
etc.

I'm looking to do the same for the author, etc. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Try using a query like this:

SELECT `bookTitle`, COUNT(*) as `numTimes`  FROM `myTable` GROUP BY `bookTitle`
