date that displays "posted about 2 weeks ago"

So I found this blog that has a cool way to display when a post was made. Instead of showing the actual date, it somehow figures out when a post was made and rounds it to a week or month.

I barely know my way around PHP, does anyone know how they did this, or could point me in the right direction to figure out how to?

when you are displaying the information on your php site, you could:

find the number of days inbetween the posted date and the current date
if the number of days is under 7, then say "this week"
*if the number is over 7, divide it by 7 days in a week to get the approximate number of weeks.
-if the number of weeks is greater than say 6 ("about 6 weeks"), divide the number of weeks by 4 to get the approximate number of months.. and on and on for years and decades etc..

Yes thank you, that makes sense. How would I actually go about coding it?

I hand-code my simple website. I was thinking I just plug in the date whenever I edit something, and then the php would figure out how long it has been by subtracting that date from the current date.

I don't know how to even start :/ this is all very new to me.
