[RESOLVED] I can't even write the Hello World script...

I'm just learning PHP and I'm doing the famous Hello World excercise. Here is my script written verbatim:

<body>
<p> Hello World!!!
<?php
$age = 15;
$name = "Harry";
?>

<br />Hello World. Again!!!!!<br />
<?php
echo $name;
?>

</body>
</html>

And here is my output:

Hello World!!!
Hello World. Again!!!!!

Obviously on the third output line it should say "Harry" instead of being blank. I'm writing in a basic HTML page in Dreamweaver. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

OK. I re-saved the file as a .php page and it works. So that was the problem. Thanks for the help. 🙂

So that brings up another question: If you can't run php in an HTML file, are there any restrictions for running HTML in a php file? In other words, is it safe or efficient to save ALL files as PHP files?

There is no restrictions. But remember to put PHP code between <?php ...... ?>. And that`s it. I had some problems with this combination but it was advanced programming.
