xml_parse function not parsing url's from XML properly

in my xml document I have the following (for example):

<dc:identifier>
http://www.needs.org/needs/?path=/public/search/search_results/learning_resource/summary/index.jhtml&id=B2DFF415-007B-4B2E-9758-630EACFBA9FF
</dc:identifier>

In my handler function I set a boolean to true when I enter that tag, and then in the
data handler function I save the $data. However it turns out the parser is only giving me

http://www.needs.org/needs/?path=/public/search/search_results/learning_resource/summary/index.jhtml

The rest of the url is lost. Any idea why this is and how I can fix it? I need the whole url. Thanks in advance.

The CDATA tag tells any xml parser to ignore the data within

Thanks for the info, but I don't want the parser to ignore the data; the data is what I need the most. The problem is that the url always parses halfway { it stops at $amp; }. Furthermore, I do not have control over the format of the xml document, as it is generated dynamiclly when the user searches.

I fixed the problem, thank G-d. The parser would merely parse the url in parts. What I did was have the string variable contanenate the new data on each pass. Thus all the pieces come together. I debugged it by printing out the element name and data. I noticed that dc:identifier would be printed out three times or more for each actual dc:identifier in the xml file; each print out of dc:identifier was followed by one part of the url.
