My goal is to increase traffic to my web site via blog articles.

The php based blog software I want to use is called wordpress and it uses php and mysql. Does google look down on the fact that the content will be stored in the sql database? Does this make it dificult for google to crawl the content since it is not on actual pages on my host? I know I rss feed out the content so maybe this is the answer.

Googlebot wouldn't know. It just sees the pages that the server serves up, same as any other http client.

OK, but how will google know where and what to index? Can it crawl inside the db or do I need to send out an rss feed to get the blog indexed?

Google doesn't have any magical technology for crawling web sites beyond what anyone else uses. All they can do is follow links and request pages the same as - like I said - any http client. You'll see it in your server logs: a whole bunch of requests made by a client calling itself Googlebot following every link it finds.

So no, it can't crawl inside your db. If you want it to see the contents of your database, you'll have to put the information into web pages. But hey, that's what your blog is for, right?

If you want to know more of the specifics, there's an obvious place to look.

One more question just to clarify: if the content is store inside the db and then also gets presented into html pages on my site. Do the indexers crawl just the links to the aricles (or bloglines) or can I also have the entire article in html on the site so the indexers can index the entire article? I am trying to visualize this all. Is the content in he db and also on full pages?

If you want to see what the bots would see then download the Lynx browser. This is a text only browser and anything you can see in that should be visible to the spider crawling it.

If you have password protected areas etc then it will not be able to see these as it will not have the password.

Try using Lynx and anything you can see then the spider should be able to.

The only way to increase traffic is with quality content. Google linking to your site is pretty irrelevant unless:

1 - you have unique content

and/or

2 - you have alot of people linking to your page

Worrying about Google indexing everything is too simple...

1 - make your page titles unique
2 - put your page heading in an heading tag
3 - don't muck up your site with poorly thought out code

WordPress, out of the box, does all of the these things.

So, in a nutshell, create good content and join the communities that make sense...let others know you are out there. Google will do its part if you do yours.

My site has been search optimized with correct code and tags and unique content. My goal is for the wordpress blog software to help me create even more unique content but I just want to make sure it will get indexed correctly (don't want bad code). If I push out the blog pages via rss to get synicated, will this count as incoming links?
