[RESOLVED] sorting an autoincrement field

how to sort my id autoincrement field?
because often the data is deleted, the data become unorder on it's id.
2,4,5,6,9,14,16... ( start from one then the next is in order form )

maybe it should be checked each time a new data is inserted.

? could we modify the autoincrement field as it always keep to increase..?

It should not matter whether there are gaps in the numbering. Normally, the main purpose of the autoincrement field is just to provide a unique ID for each row that can be efficiently used as a search criteria in your where clauses. If such gaps are causing you problems, maybe you need to explain those problems to us to see if you just need a change in your program logic rather than in the database.
