i reckon you need experience more than qualifications.
i walked into a well paid dev job just down the road from me, i don't have any qualifications* but had enough of a portfolio of stuff i'd coded to get the gig.
this job involved php, html, xhtml, xml, javascript and anything else that came up. remember the more you can do the more value you are to a possible employer.
hated it though, so walked out after a week......... i simply couldn't do with the white collar, blue chip bull that went with it.
i've also been in the employers seat and turned away highly qualified people as they had no experience. all the theory in the world means nothing unless you can actually back it up with ability.
* i do have a swimming badge and parachute certificate though
