In fact it's been done so often that there are a lot of threads on the subject that can be found by searching, and it's even mentioned in the FAQ.
So you have a variable that you set to 0 before you start the loop. Each time through the loop, you look at it and if it's 0 you use one colour and change the variable to 1; and if it's 1 you use the other colour and change the variable to 0.
