[RESOLVED] php.ini and the C:\Windows folder

Howdy all,

I’m looking for a little help with a fresh installation of 5.1.6 on a IIS6 Windows 2003 Enterprise server. Everything appears to be correct as far as the configuration. I am able to get the phpinfo screen ONLY when the php.ini file is not in C:\WINDOWS folder. When the same php.ini file located in C:\PHP is copied to the C:\WINDOWS folder it displays a blank page.

When I am able to get the phpinfo screen up it displays C:\WINDOWS for the Configuration File (php.ini) Path. The only reason why this is a concern for me is that I need to enable mssql extension.

Any help is greatly appricated.

Leave the php.ini file (and all .dll dependencies) in the C:\PHP directory. Then, do the following three things:

Make sure you've added C:\PHP to the system PATH environment variable, as per this FAQ entry.
Create a new "PHPRC" system environment variable and point this to the folder where the php.ini file resides (e.g. C:\PHP) as per this FAQ entry.
If PHP still doesn't behave correctly, make sure you've followed all of the steps in these two manual pages: [man]install.windows.manual[/man] and [man]install.windows.iis[/man]

Unfortunately none of these things fixed the problem. When I add the PHPRC to the environment variable I get the same results when I copy the php.ini file to the c:\windows.

I have even reinstalled Windows hoping that something was configured incorrectly.

After about a week of trying to get this problem resolved I have finally fixed it. Nothing was wrong with my setup and configuration of the PHP install or the IIS install. The test phpinfo.php file I created was wrong. It worked fine when no php.ini file was available to it. Here’s the before and after.

Before:
<? phpinfo() ;?>

After:
<?php phpinfo();?>

Any comments?

short_tag_open (or something) is turned Off. It's not considered good coding habits/standards/whatever to use "<?" vs. the full "<?php" tag.

Thank you so much for all of your help.

Not only was the phpinfo.php file not coded correctly but so is the whole program I have been starting to test on a development system. I think I am going to instruct my boss to fire all the programmers.
