[RESOLVED] Countdown to bdays

Hi,

Im searching for help on making the following:
I have a DB with 2 coloums: name(text), bday(date). with 20 names and bdays in.

I want to show the upcoming birthday on my site, with the date and a countdown. I only wanna show 1 result.

How can i make a SQL query for that?

Try it like this:

SELECT * FROM `table`
WHERE 
	MONTH(bdate) >= MONTH(NOW()) AND 
	DAYOFMONTH(bdate) >= DAYOFMONTH(NOW())
ORDER BY MONTH(bdate), DAYOFMONTH(bdate) ASC
LIMIT 1

Hmm! actually it doesnt work, it comes back with a empty result (with the coloum names edited and such).

But wont that just give me the next birthday in THIS year? what if, lets say, im in December and the next persons birthday is in january - what will it do then?

Maybe you could do it with JavaScript? If you use variables it might work, I think.

If you want to get the next upcoming birthday, try this:

SELECT * FROM my_table WHERE bday > CURDATE() ORDER BY bday LIMIT 1;

yeah, that could well work - but as i use the standard dateformat in SQL: yyyy-mm-dd i wouldnt get any results with that query, because a example of a bday would look like this: 1980-05-01.

Maybe i could change the format to only mm-dd but then i would not be able to calculate their age :-)
