Multiple tables auto_increment id ??

I have a database called "links" with two tables "google" and "yahoo"

The structure for the tables are the same id and name

is there any way of having both tables have auto increment ids?

Say for example I have cron update each a script which adds what I need added to the tables for google and yahoo.

Google table
1 http://www.googlelink.com/red.html
2 http://www.googlelink.com/blue.html
3 http://www.googlelink.com/green.html

Yahoo table
1 http://www.yahoo.com/red.html
2 http://www.yahoo.com/blue.html
3 http://www.yahoo.com/green.html

Say I ran the the script which added the google links and then the yahoo links, this is what I would like it to do:

Google table
1 http://www.googlelink.com/red.html
2 http://www.googlelink.com/blue.html
3 http://www.googlelink.com/green.html

Yahoo table
4 http://www.yahoo.com/red.html
5 http://www.yahoo.com/blue.html
6 http://www.yahoo.com/green.html

Is that possible?

and then inserted again, what it will happend?

Okay this is what im doing. Im having a script check news articles and everytime the script is ran, it adds them to news.txt. I have the script cron every other hour. But it grabs so many news ids that I dont want that many added, I only want 10 out of the list.

As you asking to see if two tables can basically share the same auto_inc id? If so then just use a third table with an auto_inc column. Insert a row into it then use the resulting id to update the other table.

I guess the real questions are:

Why have two tables for your links. Just use one table and add a column to indicate if the link is from google or yahoo.
If you really need two tables then why share the auto_inc value? It's usually a very bad idea to try and use an auto_inc value for sorting or something of that nature. If you need the latest entries then add a timestamp column.
