What's the difficulty rating on this??

I was wondering how hard it would be to create a script that will allow me to send files from my computer to my phone. I have found a pretty good site that can do this, but I have my own server and wanted to have my own site. Eventually I would like to be able to send files to Cingular and Verizon, so my friends can use it. The site I use is http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/index.php .

Is there a a script that already exists simlar to this, or one I can use to get started??? I am not that strong in PHP coding, so I was just wondering if this was something way out of my league.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

if you're not that strong on php coding you might it difficult to:

create script that allows you to upload a file
check it's integrity
then send it off as an email attachment

that's the basic theory of it but to support verizon you have to do more than that as they operate a pretty tough walled garden policy and often enough block downloads and certain mime types in email attachments.

as for something that is ready made, well i've made a wap push, wap download and verizon deployment solution but it's commercial work so i can't show the code online. there are a load of php scripts for file uploads and loads for emailing a file off. you'll have to put them together.

How are you planning to send files to your phone? What protocol do you use?

If it's a text-message, SMS / MMS, do you have an internet-SMS provider who can do this for a cost that you're happy with?

Why do you need to use PHP on a web page to do this? Have you already achieved this using a standalone (non-web) application?
