[RESOLVED] How to recover Date

Hi,

i have a submission form which includes the usual along with the date which is submitted as such.

The code that input the data into the database is as such

$date=$_POST['datesubmitted'];
mysql_connect($host,$username,$password);
@mysql_select_db($database) or die( "Unable to select database");
 $query = "INSERT INTO ten_details VALUES ('','$date')";
 mysql_query($query);

when recovering the data i use

$query="SELECT * FROM ten_data WHERE tenant_detailsid='$ten_detailsid' ORDER by id DESC";

My problem is because I use a Mysql database new records are entered in blank or deleted spaces so using the id to recover data does not work. I want my recovery to be work on a last date submitted shown from the top format. any help would be much appreciated.

2 things

1. why are you putting the date in the form at all? just grab the current date in your form processing code. or better yet just use the NOW() fucntion in your INSERT query.

2. your code suggests that you are storing you dates as strings. store your dates using one of mySQL's Date and Time Types.

I've altered my database with a date field, this shows 0000-00-00 in all the Fields. I have deleted my datesubmitted field. How do I use my $query as above to then set the date stamp on the record to replace 0000-00-00 with the carrect date?
will it do it automatically ore do I need to change my code from

$query = "INSERT INTO ten_details VALUES ('','$date')";

I'm sorry for my ignorance, still learning but do I change the string $date to something else. I have been tring different variations with no joy.

$query = "INSERT INTO tenant_details (surname, firstname, sex, dob, landlordloid, date) VALUES ('','$last','$first','$male','$dob','$landlordloid',NOW())";

I have tried

$query = "INSERT INTO tenant_details (surname, firstname, sex, dob, landlordloid, date) VALUES ('','$last','$first','$sex','$dob','$landlordloid','NOW()')";
