populate form input with database data?

i have a text area that you can enter text into from an "admin" section of the site. the text box updates a chunk of text on the site thats displayed from the database. the problem is that when you logout and then log back in to the admin section, the existing text of the box isnt in the box, its blank, and if you want to edit the other options on the page, when save the page without putting new text in the box, the box is made blank on the site. my question is, how do i get the current contents of the box from the database into the box when its in the admin section being edited? thanks!

Just query the database for that value, and echo it between the <textarea> tags or in the value attribute of an input tag.

Its not working. It works for single line input boxes but not for the text area.

Then there is something wrong with your data fetching routine. Populating the textarea form element is done exactly as pointed out, by putting the value between the <textarea> tags.
