The answer is in your question. You have an error in your SQL statement.

If you post the sql syntax then we will be able to help, but your not really giving us alot to go on with 'You have an error in your SQL syntax'

This is such a common error and as the error says.. there is an error in your sql statement, easy to fix.. just need to play about with it,
depends on the query but PHPMYADMIN is a good tool to use to query SQL
