They don't talk to each other....

I am unable to make connection between PHP and MySQL in Dreamweaver 8.0. In dreamweaver’s ‘MySQL connection window’ after filling in connection name, server name, user and password when I press select button, I am getting the following message:

“Your PHP server doesn't have MySQL module loaded or you can't use mysql_(p)connect functions.”

PHP is running OK on my computer and I can see dynamic pages in my browser. Also MySQL server is running. I can log in to MySQL as user ‘root’ with password.

To enable sql.dll in PHP I have done following steps in PHP.ini:

1) Set extension_dir=c\PHP\ext
2) Removed semicolon at start of following statement in PHP.ini
extension=PHP_mysql.dll
3) Set Path in windows sytem variables to PHP installation directory: Path c:\PHP.

Can someone please tell me what step I am missing in PHP or MySQL configuration?

What host name are you using for mySQL? Sometimes instead of localhost, 127.0.0.1 works better for whatever reason.

Thanks for the response. I tried 127.0.0.1 but still no success. I have also put IUSR_COMPUTERNAME as member of Administrator so that I could share data folder in MSQL installation folder with this user but my bad luck that I still get the same error message. How to share databases and where are mysql databases? If I am not wrong these are in data folder of mysql installation folder.

Shouldn't the extension dir be:

c:\PHP\ext

You are quite right, it is C:\PHP\ext in my php.ini. I only mis spelled it in my post.

But still I am getting the error message

do a quick [man]phpinfo/man page and see if mySQL is truly in fact loaded.

Thanks for the reply. I loaded phpinfo page and get lot of information (pretty cool thing, you get all the information you will ever need). I think I should look under “Additional Modules” if the mysql is loaded or not. There is no module loaded under Additional module. Where else this phpinfo will tell what module are loaded or what I should look for in it?

1.) Try removing the trailing slash in the extension_dir item.
2.) It wouldn't be an additional module. You'd scroll down the long PHPinfo page and see a header that says mySQL
