Having some configuration problems...

Okay, I installed PHP 4.4.4 on my computer (windows xp) using the windows installer, and I am having problems getting it configured.

For one, I have no idea what a web server is, or what it's doing to help me. Nevertheless, I have tried to follow the instructions to configure to Apache and to IIS (shows up as Microsoft Management Console on my computer...I think). I came to a dead end with both of them.

All I know, is that when I save my first "Hello World" as a .php file, and open it on my web browser (Mozilla Firefox) I get something like this:

Hello World!

'; ?>

I'm very frustrated with this, so if anyone could help me out, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Apache and IIS are both webservers, you'll want one or the other but not both so Im not sure exactly what your doing.

ps: The output of your hello world script looks clode to correct, Can we see the code you used to produce this output?

Also, what do you get when you try and view this script?

When I tried that second code you gave me, I got absolutely nothing.

It might be easier for you to just download and install xampp. It is an all in one installer that will setup php, apache, mysql and a bunch of other cool stuff.

Wow, I didn't know that existed. It will take quite a while to download, but I will try that and see what happens. Thanks. 🙂
