Image cropping - circles

I'm not sure if this can be done - I have searched around but am not finding what I'm looking for.

I want to have a generic header image with say a circle in it where the user can upload their image and I can transform that into the header.

I would image I would be using the image libraries which I have played around with but I dont know if this is a possibility.

You could have a look at this article. The last section on textures in particular. In your case, the "texture" would be the uploaded image, and the "text" would be your circle. It's an idea to play with.
