New to php

Hi,

I am a Computer Science graduate and unluckily caught up with IT - Marketing Job but inclination is still towards development.

I got a new project from a third party to accomplish within 2 months - "Database driven website for a company that organizing events like parties, weddings etc."

Could you please assist me with how to move ahead.

Remember, I am new to php and want to learn not to get this job done by experts.

Well, arguably the hardest part will be designing the DB and that will depend alot on whay the client wants the website to be able to do. After that it should be straight forward. You will need some basic things, like an authentication system which you might find ready made or you can do your self - but 2 months is not alot of time to write alot of php code and debug.

Thanks for the help. Let me tell you, this project would help me to get a job into that organization.

So there are no preferences on the database design as such, they just need to test me.
It has to be a customized database not Joomle/Mambo etc.

Well, do they want to do business like take orders, give quotations, schedule events etc. or is it just a dynamic content web site that may be update-able by users?

U got it - it should be CMS based where admin can edit/delete/add etc.

Let me show you the exact message - "Here is the project
I need a PHP + Mysql website for a company that is organizing events
(weddings, parties).
I need a CMS (Content Management System) where the admin can manage the
entire content of the website, add/edit/delete the events that has been
realized(pictures, texts), with texts and images, manage newsletters,
manage users.
I need a font end website were all the information added in admin
(content, images, events) will be displayed in a nice design.

I'd suggest finding an existing CMS package with the features you need and that you can then customize to the client's needs, rather than trying to write this from scratch. You might want to poke around the www.opensourcecms.com site to see if anything there looks like it would do the job.

I wish I could - but it has to be a customized & self oriented package.

Nothing says you can't customize an existing package, does it? It just seems to me that it would be easier, quicker, and more economical to maybe write/modify a few hundred lines of code and/or config files in a well-deveoped and tested CMS system than writing possibly tens of thousands of new lines of untested code (or worse, writing only a few thousand lines of code and possibly delivering something with gaping security holes in it).

I completely agree with you and had already proposed Joomla - but no go.

I am a beginner and with only self code written they will recruit me.
