Setting a cookie to an image??

I looked through some of the FAQs, but wasn't able to find anything relating directly this my question. Basically I was curious if there's a way to set a cookie to an image. I need to set a cookie, but if i can set it to an image it'd be even better. Anyone know how that'd be accomplished in PHP?

I would just set a value for the cookie that you can use to choose which image to display (file name, database key field value, etc.). I don't think you want to be sending entire images back and forth with the cookies on each page request (assuming the cookie will even accept that much data).

I've just never had to really do anything relating to cookies, even though I've been using php for awhile and starting using google analytics on some other things.

What I trying to do was set this cookie to an image, but the image is just going to be a 1pixel x 1 pixel placeholder. But would your way above be much easier?
