PHP Based Permission/Authentication System

Can anyone recommend a drop-php in permission/authentication system that can be quickly added to a site for user authentication?

I have run into a few, but wanted to know from some of the more experienced developers here if there are any that are known to tbe the best? Would consider commercial products if they exist.

I''ve been looking for a way to put my PHP web-based program on a disc so that others could access my program, yet I still can maintain control over who downloads the program or who gets the discs. I would appreciate any information on PHP authentication programs, perhaps some links? I've found a few commerical websites such as PHPAudit, Olate, and Shareguard that you might find usable. Sorry that I don't have the actual links, but I'm sure if you Google them, you will be able to get there.
