Use HTML or PHP for doc types?

Hi, everyone, hope you can help me. I recently bought a shopping cart app that uses PHP. Currently, all my store pages are in HTML with a shopping cart FORM.

I would like to know if I can leave my pages as HTML documents and simply insert the PHP shopping cart codes. In other words, will my shopping cart work even though the pages are saved as HTML?

Hope that makes sense. Thanks for any info you can give me.

In order for the PHP code to be parsed by the server the pages will need to be saved as .php rather than .html.

Not strictly true. If running on Apache you can use a .htaccess file to tell the server to also send .html files (or any other suffix, for that matter) through the PHP parser as well.

.htaccess:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .php .htm .html
